Bainbridge Island Press has released a new poetry anthology, Grain, a collection of nearly ninety curated poems. According to the publisher, “Grain gathers voices who know wheat and rice, harvest and hunger, the daily loaf and the loaf of feast, and it asks what poetry might learn from the work of feeding people.”

One of my poems, titled “No Grain Alone,” is included in this collection. It is a sonnet that explores the ways in which a single grain may fail, but many gathered together will feed a multitude. It is a celebration of the simple truth that a culmination, a gathering, a collection of individuals, will always be stronger than the one who stands alone.
